2️⃣ PfMP Certification Eligibility Requirements

To apply for PfMP certification, you must meet one of the following criteria:

Education Project/Program Management Experience Portfolio Management Experience
Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) 8+ years (96 months) 4+ years (48 months)
High School Diploma (or Associate Degree) 10+ years (120 months) 7+ years (84 months)
  • Note: Experience must be within the last 15 years.

3️⃣ PfMP Certification Process

Step 1: Application & Panel Review

  • Submit your PfMP application on PMI’s website.
  • Your experience will be evaluated by a PMI panel of experts (takes ~4 weeks).

Step 2: PfMP Exam

  • Exam Format:
    • 170 multiple-choice questions
    • 4-hour duration
    • Based on PMI’s Standard for Portfolio Management
  • Exam Fee:
    • PMI Members: $800
    • Non-Members: $1,000

Step 3: Multi-Rater Assessment (MRA)

  • After passing the exam, PMI sends a leadership evaluation survey to your colleagues and supervisors.
  • They rate you on portfolio management competencies.

Step 4: Certification Award

  • Once you pass the exam and MRA, PMI awards you the PfMP credential.
