PfMP® (Portfolio Management Professional) Certification
The PfMP® (Portfolio Management Professional) is the highest-level certification offered by PMI (Project Management Institute) for professionals who manage multiple programs and projects at an enterprise level to meet strategic business objectives.
1️⃣ Overview of PfMP Certification
- Issued by: Project Management Institute (PMI)
- Best for: Senior portfolio managers, executives, and PMO leaders
- Focus: Aligning projects, programs, and business strategy at an organizational level
- Difficulty Level: Expert (Above PMP & PgMP)
- Validity: 3 years (requires 60 PDUs for renewal)
- Recognition: Global standard for portfolio management professionals
2️⃣ PfMP Certification Eligibility Requirements
To apply for PfMP certification, you must meet one of the following criteria:

3️⃣ PfMP Certification Process
Step 1: Application & Panel Review
- Submit your PfMP application on PMI’s website.
- Your experience will be evaluated by a PMI panel of experts (takes ~4 weeks).
Step 2: PfMP Exam
- Exam Format:
- 170 multiple-choice questions
- 4-hour duration
- Based on PMI’s Standard for Portfolio Management
- Exam Fee:
- PMI Members: $800
- Non-Members: $1,000
Step 3: Multi-Rater Assessment (MRA)
- After passing the exam, PMI sends a leadership evaluation survey to your colleagues and supervisors.
- They rate you on portfolio management competencies.
Step 4: Certification Award
- Once you pass the exam and MRA, PMI awards you the PfMP credential.
